Happy Birthday, Rachael Volz!

Today's birthday girl is event guru Rachael Volz, CEO and owner of A Fare Extraordinaire and The Revaire. Each month we celebrate a local entrepreneur on her special day.

Happy birthday! How will you celebrate this year?
I have dinner and drinks planned with a few groups of friends and a special weekend trip with my college roommates to the Commodore Perry Estate in Austin.

What's on your wish list?
A good cowboy boot that can protect me from snakes and get muddy at the ranch, the best mascara of all time, the cutest top — a must have — and a closet re-org by the best organizer in Houston!

Your venue, The Revaire — pictured below — is the setting for our Fashion Farmers Market. Tell us the history of the building.
The 4-acre property that is home to The Revaire and A Fare Extraordinaire was originally built in 1942. During World War II, it was a munitions factory, which later was turned into a fastener plant. I saw the potential in the vast building, even though it wasn’t for sale. My team and I began the renovation in August of 2017, with a goal to host parties at the venue in the following spring. Acting as designers, general contractors, the cleaning crew, and creative marketers, my team turned the factory into our new home in nine months! The vast space now houses AFE’s offices, rental warehouse, catering and tasting kitchens, and our 25,000 sq. ft. event venue, The Revaire.

Tell us about why you started your business.
Being co-owner of A Fare Extraordinaire, I realized that there was a need for more versatile venues for weddings and galas. For years, my husband Jason and I searched for the perfect building. We wanted something with history, soul and elegance but also centrally located and easily accessible from all parts of town. We found just that in this 1942 munition factory. Now modernized and redesigned with style and sophistication, our dream space has been brought to life.

2020 was an extremely challenging year for event planners. What's the most valuable lesson you learned?
I learned how important it is to pivot and be resilient during difficult times. I need to release control and trust in God.

Favorite place for celebratory cocktails.
Hugo's!

What makes The Revaire a magical place for weddings and receptions?
Built of steel, cased in glass, and dusted with gold, this space is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art in the heart of the city we call home! We at A Fare Extraordinaire are innovative, creative, flexible, and accommodating moment makers. I live for special events and celebrations of all kinds. My team and I find great pleasure in making dreams a reality, and this venue allows just that. We are a one-stop shop for all the necessary wedding elements at The Revaire, making the planning process easy and stress free.
