Happy Birthday, Stirling!

We asked a local plastic surgeon what makes a woman beautiful and found out the latest in cosmetic procedures in today's Birthday Girl feature. Each month we celebrate a local business owner on her special day.

Happy birthday! How are you celebrating this year?
Celebrating with my family and going roller skating!

How many candles are you blowing out?

What's on your birthday wish list?
Tennis lessons!

What do you think makes a woman beautiful?
The uniqueness of a woman’s face — the natural asymmetries that only they have — makes them beautiful.

Clear up three myths about plastic surgery.
1) Plastic surgery is more affordable than you think.
2) Having plastic surgery doesn’t mean you’re vain. It’s all about confidence — my goal is for you to feel confident and beautiful in your own skin.
3) That you’ll look “overdone” or not like yourself. My focus is always on natural results, head-to-toe.

Top request from your patients right now?
Mommy makeovers are very popular, which includes breasts, stomach, and often liposuction. Now is a common time to have this procedure as it’s not quite yet swimsuit season.

Top lesson you learned becoming a surgeon?
Patients want to understand their procedures on a personal level, so thoroughly explaining what to expect before, during, and after the procedures in depth really helps patients feel comfortable. I’ve made so many meaningful connections through the process.

As a former reconstructive fellow at MD Anderson, part of your specialty is breast procedures for breast cancer patients. What are your favorite cancer-beating organizations?
Susan G. Komen is wonderful, and locally, The Rose.

What’s the latest in body contouring procedures?
High-definition liposuction, or “etching.”

People would be surprised to learn this about me…
1) I played college lacrosse and 2) I’ve done a lot of missionary work.

Always in my work bag.
A mask and my own personal surgical tools.

Neighborhood you call home and why you love it.
River Oaks—it’s fun to have sidewalks and parks within walking distance — especially Pumpkin Park, which is also within walking distance to my house.

Medical reality shows: can’t watch or can’t miss?
I don’t watch!

What is your sign and do you identify with it?
I’m an Aries and I identify with being honest, driven and generous.

Three local restaurants or shops you can't wait to return to.
I can’t wait to eat sushi! Uchi, MF Sushi, and Kata Robata are top of my list!
