Did ACL Fest wake up the free spirit in you? Keep the good vibes going with a road trip to the hipster-cool West Texas town of Marfa a few culturally-driven events. Free your mind, and the rest will follow.

HOUSE PARTY
A culmination of cultural arts lives and breathes at the Ballroom Marfa, this weekend, October 9 – 11, during the Ballroom Marfa Open House. Check out the visual arts show, Two Face, an exhibition by Ballroom Marfa artists-in-residence Aaron Curry and Thomas Houseago, a result of a month-long joint stay in this inspiring West Texas town.

RETAIL PARTY
Sip a Tecate at the fabulous new JM Dry Goods (map) while shopping vintage Mexican dresses, distressed Levis, well-worn cowboy boots and an eclectic mix of accessories and housewares, all on the cheap. It just so happens that the cool kids from Bows + Arrows and Spartan are headed that way tomorrow, and will have a pop-up shop set up at JM Dry Goods throughout the weekend.

FIELD PARTY
Grab your new fringe vest, braid your hair and hit the 4th Annual Trans-Pecos Festival of Music and Love at El Cosmico for two nights of music on a solar-powered stage this weekend. Performances by the likes of Amy Cook, Ben Kweller, Patty Griffin and the Heartless Bastards will make the trip drive-worthy. Camp under the stars and be sure to register online before you’re sans WiFi.

MUSEUM PARTY
Take a break from the music and check out the grand re-opening of Donald Judd’s free-standing works in concrete at the The Chinati Foundation starting Friday, October 9th. If you like what you see, keep on keepin’ on with various events that continue throughout the weekend.
