Fashion Plates! 4 New Restaurants to Try Right Now

If the chew fits...

HEIGHTS // Eco-minded meets gorgeous design. Verdine wants to convince you an all-plant diet can be delicious. Serving up 100% vegan food inside the repurposed water treatment facility known as Heights Waterworks, the restaurant is the brainchild of Ripe Cuisine food truck founder Stephanie Hoban. Expect a cement bar top, industrial windows and blue and white tiles. Committed to healthy eats that come from as many organic, local ingredients as possible, the menu is fueled by the mantra "Eat with a Purpose" Try the jackfruit artichoke krabby cake burger, spinach dosas, grain bowls or orange sesame cauliflower for a meal that's balanced, then pair your reduced-guilt dish with beer or sustainable wines. Currently open for lunch - dinner coming soon. Photo: @itsnothouitsme

The Roastery Coffee Kitchen

GALLERIA // The expansion continues for The Roastery Coffee Kitchen's third location, now open and attached to the San Felipe H-E-B. The new flagship boasts an expansive menu for breakfast through dinner as well as a full bar featuring craft and coffee-centric cocktails. The menu is designed to be refined but fun - highlights from the menu include confit duck wings, seasonal vegetable salads, summer squash fritters, a whimsical spin on a lobster roll using crawfish, gulf shrimp and grits, a full assortment of gourmet brick oven pizzas and more. Take a seat at the "roaster's circle" and watch the Roast Masters at work - it's the brand's new local coffee roasting facility. The dog-friendly patio has an outdoor stage and custom mural, and live music will join the party soon.

1751 Sea and Bar

HEIGHTS // New Gulf seafood focused restaurant 1751 Sea and Bar is now open in the former Star Fish space. The completely revamped restaurant has added a communal dining area and full raw bar featuring a wide range of oysters as well as unique bites such as live shellfish when available, caviar service, and a seafood charcuterie board. Check out the tom yum seafood hotpot, smoked duck gumbo, crawfish souffle, caesar brussels and lobster spring rolls - the menu works well as a multi-course dinner or as shareable plates. The new venture's name pays homage to the Gin Act of 1751 with their vast menu of over 100 types of gin.

Mina Ristorante

UPPER KIRBY // Former neighborhood Italian takeaway market Borgo Food Station has converted into Mina Ristorante, now a sit-down, intimate concept from the same European owners. Enjoy traditional, house-made Italian family recipes during the more casual, counter-service lunch hours or full service dinner. Memories from the husband and wife team's Italian roots shape each dish on the menu. Ciao down on lasagna bolognese, homemade pastas, salads, sandwiches, chicken marsala, shrimp parmigiana and more. Plus, weekday happy hour specials at the bar or al fresco on the patio.

Trend-setting restaurants worth stepping out to this month.
